A Story Of Resilience, By Hera Eid.

“My mission in life has changed when, at the age of 21, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Diabetes changed my life to the better in many ways. I have become a more positive, committed, disciplined, faithful and hopeful person. And most of all, it made me much more stronger where I believed in myself that I can achieve all my goals and live a normal life, just like any other young adult.

That is why, “My life is my message – Ghandi” is my motto in life. I have a message to deliver to people, that we people affected by type 1 diabetes are just like those who are not. We live a normal life, have a healthy lifestyle, do sports, all with the right and proper management.

Last November, I decided to challenge myself and run the full marathon/ 42 km. And I did it! With practice, dedication, overcoming all challenges I have faced, with determination and proper diabetes management, I achieved my dream.

I want to be an inspiration and a true example to every single person affected by type 1 diabetes, to work towards achieving their dreams and believing in themselves. After all, nothing is impossible, and it is all about the journey and what we learn through it, the mental endurance we get and the physical strength we build.

Also, on 8/25/2018, I went hiking to reach the highest peak in Lebanon and Near East (the black peak) which is 3088 m above the sea level. A huge achievement to me as well!

Through my diabetes, I made the best out of the worst, and I want everyone else to do the same. I want to keep spreading my message, expand the diabetes community, motivate and inspire as much people as I can.

Now, I am preparing to run the 10 km Women’s race on the 31st of March, on my 30th birthday :)”
