The past few months, I have become acutely aware of the importance of mental well-being. After the loss of our baby and our rocky fertility journey, I struggled from grief, anger and sadness. I sought therapy. I am not ashamed to say it.

In the past, I would conceal my emotions for the sake of not being judged. I just thought I had to suck it up and move on. therapy became a safe place for me to express my thoughts and work through my grief.

Thanks to Dr Rand Diab, many of my colleagues have shared their struggles this past week.

Thankfully I am doing much better. However, there are so many people that suffer from bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety and other disorders in silence.

Close to 50% of the US population suffers from mental illness at least once in their lifetime. Only 40% of these people actually seek help.

It’s important to normalize mental health issues in society including in the medical field. If we can’t help ourselves, how can we help others?
